About

Posters in Parliament was launched in 2013 by the British Conference of Undergraduate Research (BCUR) to bring together an outstanding collection of the best undergraduate research from across the country in an academic poster exhibition. The event was originally inspired by Posters on the Hill, where students presented their work to the House of Representatives and the Senate in the USA.

Established in 2011, BCUR is an open coalition of universities dedicated to encouraging a national culture of undergraduate research, which continues to support Posters in Parliament.

Each year Members of Parliament (MPs), Peers, policymakers and academics attend to view the poster exhibition and discuss firsthand some of the innovative student research taking place around the country. It is also an opportunity for the students to share their research and ideas with each other.

On behalf of BCUR, The University of Warwick has organised Posters in Parliament since 2023, led by both Professor Jane Bryan and the Student Research team in the Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning.

In 2025, over 50 undergraduate students, representing 24 universities from across the UK exhibited their research.  Attendees also heard from sponsoring MP Sir Alec Shelbrooke about the importance of research in parliament, Professor MariaIacullo-Bird (Pace University, NYC) about forging international collaboration and connection through research communities, and Professor Paul Taylor (BCURChair) to congratulate presenters and award certificates.

The poster exhibition was complemented with a workshop on getting your research heard in Parliament and tours of the House of Lords.Having inspired the development of the Posters in Brussels project, Posters in Parliament 2025 welcomed representatives from all the project’s participating institutions to the exhibition as a launch event.

Student Testimonials

Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science James Lawless, TD, speaking at PsO 2025

Gleb Berloff, University of Warwick, Posters in Parliament Presenter2025

I wanted to state how honoured and amazed I feel that I was selected to present at this event. I really was not expecting this to happen when I was applying for it!

I'm studying Physics with Astrophysics. Whilst my obsession with active galactic nuclei and early universe stuff is well-known to many, I have also been known to take any topic which sounds interesting- and research it. So when Dr. Broomhall offered a project to me to study magnetic activity cycles in Sun-like stars, I was only too happy to agree.

Whilst I'm currently hoping to get my results published, presenting it to my wonderful friend, to fellow researchers, to you, the organisers and, of course to MPs, was truly an amazing experience, in Parliament, no less! My topic on the paper doesn't really sound especially interesting to me- of all people! But when you dive deep into it and learn of what the reasoning is and how these events can affect orbiting planets, sometimes cataclysmically, it can really be associated with everyday life- there is a lot of scary-sounding speculation online dealing with what would happen if another Carrington Event happened (in the 19th Century, it caused a meltdown of telegraph networks worldwide), and I enjoyed explaining 'irrelevant astrophysics' to everyone interested, and making it relevant to them!

The advice I would give to future presenters is do not be deterred, or feel your project is not relevant and won't be interesting to MPs. I was thinking all of that- I was not expecting to be selected, I felt my topic of research would be boring to everyone.Research what you're interested in, and you'd be surprised at what that can be applied to. With care, you'd be able to explain why an MP should care about something as horrific-sounding as 'quantum chromodynamics'!
”.

"I’m a second year MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery)student who had the opportunity to present my Undergraduate Research Support Scheme (URSS) project alongside my colleagues at the 2025 Posters in Parliament event. Presenting at this event was so meaningful to me as someone interested in policy writing and implementation. Throughout the event it was clear how research can be integrated into policy, helping to facilitate greater and more impactful change at a national level. I was able to speak to MPs and their teams about my research and made connections for future work in the area of antimicrobial resistance. For anyone considering applying for this opportunity,I would recommend just going for it. Even if you are unsure or don’t think your research will “fit”, everything can be impactful when presented in the right way and to the right people. Your research can make a meaningful impact!"

"It was absolutely wonderful! It was such a valuable opportunity and I have never met such a large group of kind and thoughtful people.

My research is into safety in radiobiology and I have been inspired to email my local MP to see how we can develop my proposals into legislation which will help protect our population. I'm very excited to see what comes of it.

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart."
